"We really didn't expect to be so sentimental over a ring, but thanks to Charlie helping us engrave the special message, it just made it that much more perfect! We couldn't be more grateful for the communication and for making it so easy!"

OUR CHOSEN ENGRAVING TECHNIQUE

Hand engraving is the most traditional and highly skilled form of engraving, and remains at the heart of our fine jewellery craftsmanship. Each inscription is individually cut into the metal using a hand-held 'graver', a specialist engraving tool, guided entirely by the engraver using skill, control and experience.

Traditional Craftsmanship

Every engraving is individually cut by hand, preserving the artistry and precision of traditional British craftsmanship. This method reflects generations of skill and remains the benchmark for true engraving artistry.

Uniquely Yours

No two hand-engravings are ever identical. The natural variation of a skilled hand ensures every piece carries its own character, making each inscription deeply personal and one of a kind.

Made to Endure

Hand engraving creates deep, defined cuts into the metal, designed to last a lifetime and beyond. It is a permanent mark of meaning, crafted to become part of your jewellery’s story for generations.

OUR ALTERNATIVE TECHNIQUES

Computerised Engraving/CNC

MACHINE ENGRAVING

Machine engraving uses computer-controlled technology to achieve highly accurate and consistent results. A diamond or carbide-tipped tool is guided with precision to engrave text or designs into the surface of the metal.

This method is ideal when clarity, uniformity, and efficiency are required. While it does not carry the individuality of hand engraving, it offers a clean and dependable finish, making it a practical choice for many classic jewellery inscriptions. At Farley & Weston, it is used selectively where it best suits the design and desired outcome.

EXPERT OPERATED

LASER ENGRAVING

Laser engraving is a modern technique that uses a highly focused beam of light to etch designs onto the surface of metal without physical contact. The laser removes or alters the top layer of material with extreme precision, allowing for intricate detailing that would be difficult to achieve by traditional methods.

It is particularly effective for fine, delicate, or highly detailed work, and offers remarkable versatility across different metals and jewellery styles. At Farley & Weston, laser engraving is used, which provides the most accurate and refined result for the design required.
